Motorbility grant

Our son is just about to turn 16 and as he receives higher rate mobility and care components of DLA he can apply for his provisional drivers licence. The cost of having a vehicle adapted for him to drive would be £40,000+ and thats just for the adaptions! We can apply for a grant to pay for these adaptions but its means tested on household income. Mine and my husbands joint income is greater than the threshold yet the car is for my son who is obviously still at school and has no income. How do I persuade Motorbility to only take into account my son's money and not ours?
Thanks

You can't, not until your son is not your dependent child.0
