Hello,
I just bought a home cctv kit and want to connect it to my computer monitor, my monitor only has one hdmi port which is being used to connect to the desktop tower. The monitor has a D SUB and DVI-D port available, could I use any of these to connect the DVR?
Thanks.

It depends, some monitors will allow you to connect multiple devices at once, and a button on the monitor lets you switch between them.
Some monitors if you connect multiple devices, it will only show the preferred input and ignore the other one.
So you might have to buy an HDMI switch or similar!
You haven't said what the CCTV output is? HDMI?Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -

I've never known any monitor that has more than one input that doesn't have a way to select which one is displayed.
That Amazonbasics lead will be fine but you'll be able to get one on ebay that does the job perfectly well for less than half the price. E.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2m-DVI-to-HDMI-Adapter-Cable-DVI-D-Lead-GOLD-24-1pin-Use-LCD-HD-TV-UK/372318248904?hash=item56afe59fc8:g:HSoAAOSwamhbn6UQ0 -
Does your monitor have a source button?
The easiest way would be for you to connect the CCTV to the monitor using VGA, and switch between them, if your monitor supports it.
I have a Dell monitor on my desk top right now, it has DVI and VGA but no way of switching between them. My more expensive monitors allow you to switch.
An HDMI to DVI-D would also work, assuming the monitor allows switching.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
