    The VAT at 20% would be the bigger bill at somewhere around £1,600 (given the massive markup on jewelry that could be most if not all of any resale value)

    Or you can get a cheap flight and pick it up, then you dont have to pay VAT

    I would strongly warn anyone against nickel279's option. I hope it was 'tongue in cheek' as it is encouraging smuggling.
    You are only permitted £390 worth of other goods duty free into the UK!
