PPI predicament

Howdy folks,
I keep being tempted to go through a PPI claim malarkey.
What's stopping me, other than the not knowing how much the claim would be for and whether it'd be worth going forward, knowing I;d have to pay 30% to the handler, or a flat fee if there weren't any to claim, is that, in November 2014, I completed the mandatory 12-month moratorium on a Debt Relief Order, and most of that written-off debt was to Halifax PLC (which is where ALL my potential PPI would come from)... therefore if I claimed PPI and there actually was a worthwhile amount to claim, would Halifax have the right to either refuse to pay out, or to pay out and then claim it back?
I tried writing to Halifax a couple of years ago, but I didn't have any of my old account numbers or details, and so had to ask them, and they wrote back to me, telling me they had no such knowledge of me or any accounts held with them over all the addresses I gave them. Naturally, it has to be just fobbing me off.
I need someone with legal knowledge or actual experience of this or similar situations.
Thanks,
Mark.

Naturally, no one is fobbing you off.
If you believe they have data on you that they haven't yet located, you could send a SAR. But you need to be realistic as to the chances of them finding something after such a period.
Remember also that any redress will go to any debt not paid off with them.
Whatever you choose, never use a claims company.0
