Sick note and universal credit

I'M on universal credit, today I had an operation and have been given a 6 week sick note, my next pay date is on the 8th July... I'm just about to do the change of circumstances on the UC site, just wondering what I can expect to come from doing this? Payments to stop? Partial payments? Full payment?

There's no increase in your total UC amount until an illness becomes long term and you are assessed for capability for work. Even then it would only be if you were awarded the LCWRA element of UC. Will you be receiving any sick pay from work? If you are just receiving SSP then your earnings in your assessment period will be lower than usual and therefore you will have less deductions for earnings and therefore more UC than usual. If you don't work then there will be no change to the amount of Uc you receive.
  • I'm not working, so should see no reduction in payments if I understand correctly, thank you

When you report the fit note on the claim, I would suggest that you also send a journal note explaining the operation and how this will affect you. For example, what will it stop you being able to do and for how long. Plus are you expected to be fully fit after the 6 weeks.

Hopefully this will explain your situation to the Work Coach and Case Manager enough to avoid any hassle. E.g. Explain why you might not be able to attend Job Centre appointments, why a work capability assessment is not required for a temporary issue.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Quick update/question, had a message on the UC site saying they're sending me a form/questionnaire to fill out and return, will I still receive a payment next week on my usual monthly pay date of the 8th or will I not get a payment til iv returned the form and they have assessed it?

The form will be a work capability assessment form (UC50) you will need to send evidence to support your claim with the form. Return it no later than the date stated, make sure you send it with enough time for them to receive it, allowing for the longer posting time.

Expect a face to face work capability assessment because most people have them.
