Anybody using scottish power energy saver 4? Was on energy saver 3 before, am not sure whether it is a cheaper deal? At least it is not reflecting on my bills yet. Any feedback on members using scottish power, please. Thanks

Hi, I think the main difference is that energy saver 3 has a standing charge and energy saver 4 doesnt.

    The unit rates..

    Energy saver 3

    Gas

Standing charge of 12.21p per day then its 2.085p per KwH

    Electric

Standing charge of 11.30p per day then its 9.989p per KwH

    Energy saver 4

    No standing charge

Gas 3.15p per KwH for the first 1143KwH per quarter then 2.221p

Elec 14.581p per KwH for the first 225KwH per quarter then 7.113p

They are the rates including V.A.T

Both tariffs have discounts of £16.80 a year for Dual fuel and £15.75 online discount.

To work out what tariff is actually cheaper for you you really need to know your KwH for the past year in order to work out which tarif would actually be cheapest.

Be aware Energy Saver 4 has different gas and electricity prices depending on where you live. The full tariff can be viewed here. For us (region 15 - northern) the electricity for instance is very cheap but the gas is dearer than many providers although overall it works out as the cheapest provider as we use a lot of electricity. As always though, the best way to calculate prices between different tariffs is to use a spreadsheet or calculator and see which works out cheaper.

My energy supply number starts with S10 yet I live in London and in the table

    http://scottishpower.co.uk/pricing_pdfs/ole/olesaver4.pdf

it says 10 and then Eastern.

Does anyone how to get the prices for this tariff for people living in london?
  • If you phone their call centre (they have your yearly usage for both if you are currently with them) and will tell you which would work out cheapest. I have done this for Saver 2, 3 and 4 when I came of a 4 year cap with Scottish Power last December.
I am now on scheme 4.

There is a difference between the old London electricity Board area and what most people would call London. If your supply number starts with 10 your in the eastern area - use those prices.
If you're not sure - put your postcode into the comparison sites.

How can I be on eastern and liv in London?

Lodon has cheapest prices for gas - Who determines which number you fall in?

It all depends on what you call London.
The pricing regions are based on the old electricity boards - set up in the 1940s. What was called London then was probably a lot smaller than what we call London today.
If you want an example that makes even less sense, York is not in the Yorkshire region - go figure.

Very true Swanjon, always found that amuzing about the YELG distribution region.

You can live in LEB's distribution area and have an MPAN beginning with 10 for Eastern. That LDNO market opened up over a ear ago to allow distribution competition e.g. embedded networks, LNO's etc.

So, when you build a property now you could contract your supply work to Eastern who with own your MPAN and do the work, or subcontract it to the local dsitributor and still own your MPAN.

MPAN's no longer denote your distribution region, the GSP data item does per changes under P62.

This is all still very new though so not many customers would come across this. Some LNO's have been grabbing new sites. I know I've seen a few here and there.

Also, there is always the case that whilst the MPAN is in the right region, someone may change the address in error and it "appears" to be out of region. That does not sound like your case though.

This would be tricky for comparison since the changes open the distribution market up. You would be classed as living in 12 but be on a 10 MPAN. It's very likely at this stage that Suppliers & comparison sites are not updated for this.

Where you actually live when you say London? Some people class London as a much wider range when they say it.
