Repeat searches!

Options
Hi

I’ve been checking my credit file recently and noticed yesterday that 118118 and a company called Zopa keep undertaking searches for loans. Every two weeks.
I haven’t tried to arrange a loan for over two years but obviously it looks like I’m constantly trying and getting rejected.

Any idea what I can do to stop this/sort it out? Assuming it’s from a broker site quote or something? I’ve given permission? Or someone is trying to use my details for fraud? Which they won’t get anywhere seeing as my credit is score is kicking around 100 at the moment :rotfl:

Thanks!

Presumably these are soft searches! In which case nothing to worry about.

Also disregard your credit score. It's not a measure of anything useful and only seen by you. It's only the data on your credit files which is important.

Do you get emails from search sites you used 2 years ago? Probably these and you can go into the websites and remove your details if you like

However they are likely to be soft searches and have no impact. Check all credit files as some don't differentiate on soft/hard searches when they present the info to you.
  • This is clearly a marketing trawl. You've previously had some sort of relationship with 118118 and Zopa, even if it was just an enquiry. They are now taking advantage of their unregulated access to the CRA databases to determine whether or not you might succumb to their offers at some point. According to the ICO, companies need a valid reason to access CRA data; marketing is a long way from a valid reason - soft search or not. If you're concerned about this, I would ask the ICO for their view on the matter.
  • It's likely from a comparison website or ClearScore/Credit Karma - they carry out quotation searches (that you agree to when signing up) and these results in soft searches.

No one is taking advantage of anything - if it's a soft search (which it likely is) then by using the likes of comparison sites and credit report sites, you agree to them carrying out soft-searches (or quotation searches) periodically.

OP can contact them and get info removed and then they will stop searching. Until the next time they want credit or an insurance and checking prices and then its back to square 1.

OP needs to look into the type of search periodic soft quotation searches have no impact.

Thanks everyone ! It just says quotation searches then advises I don’t apply for anything else as I have too many searches.
I am aware that the credit score doesn’t mean much but as I’ve just come off a dpp, have defaults etc I’m trying to find a way to improve my credit file overall for the future. It’s going to be a long journey but I also don’t see the point if I’m going to be stuck with repeat searches!
    Thank you!

    Thank you!

Soft searches are not visible to lenders.

It's not that your credit score doesn't mean much, more that it doesn't mean anything at all.
