TBH i would call them, call your insurance company at least to enquire about a hire car for when you have to give the courtosey car back.
Who told you not to call them?

  • Hi

just rang AA, yet again they told me HSBC are dealing with it, bt that's not true as i have told Direct line to deal with things (the woman who hit us insurance) HSBC have been so useless, so i ahve just put a formal complaint in about them. Yes we do have legal cover shoosmiths are dealing with the case for us. AA jst told me that they wont take the hire car until we have the cheque for our car. So that's a good bit of news, except how mch will they give us? I really want to know what's happening but no body is talking ...... ahhhhhhh.....

Well it won't all happen immediately although they should keep you informed and you should certainly be able to call for an update.
Do you know who you claims handler is, if not ask for their name.

The claims handler at Direct Line will have to look a the age, condition, mileage of your car and come up with a figure.
Now I'm not being nasty but your's isn't the only car they are dealing with so it will take a few days for them to get round to yours.

The good news is that Direct Line are pretty good and I can tell you that they gave my nephew a very fair price recently (I think it was slightly more than he paid).

Don't be afraid to call, I'm afraid that you do need to chase these people.

I know you are anxious, but it's barely a week since your accident, as lisyloo says they are handling other claims & will get to yours in turn. Putting in a formal complaint after such a short time is a bit unfair.

We had our car written off earlier this year due to someone shunting a car into ours (our car was parked up)

When it came to the amount we received for the car we used Autotrader on-line to find out how much a replacement would cost, within 40 miles of where we live.

When they made the offer , which was lower, we rang them them up and asked them to show where on autotrader we could get an equivalent replacement for the money. They agreed they could not and upped the offer to the lowest cost car which was equivalent which was showing on autotrader. Perhap it might be worth doing this so you know what figure you will accept?

As you were hit so hard from behind, did you suffer any kind of whiplash? (pain or stiffness in the neck & shoulder area). If so, you can claim compensation for your injury via the third party insurers. These type of claims normally pay approx £1k per person. It's worth considering.

I had an accident earlier this year, that was completely my fault I might add! I caused £9k worth of dmg to my car, wrote off the other 2 cars & the driver of each car suffered injuries. The first woman had cracked ribs & had to be cut out of her car & the other girl was absolutely fine & walked home...however that didn't stop her submitting an injury claim for whiplash! Whilst I don't agree with it, if the option is there to claim then I probably would've done the same!
  • Hi all
just an update the car has been written off, far too much damage to fix, HSBC assessor rang about an hour ago, they are our insurers, and he said how much do you want for the car? bit strange i thought they told me how much? anyway he told me to look on auto trader which we have and he did say that the car was in good condition for the year. The engine was spotless honest. And he said if my hubby ring him back tomorrow and we all agree he will send the cheque out to us asap? so thats it really, oh yes and we have put a genine claim in my hubby and myself are in agony after the accident
