I go with 10 year for most stuff.
Some like to change before the items break Eg TV.
Stick £500-£1k aside and top when you use some of it.
If all your stuff is old you need a bit more depending on cash flow capability.0 -
I don't think Pioneer can be considered typical TVs. Mine is one of the last Kuros and everything about it is so robust it feels like it will go on forever.TV - pioneer bought about 2007Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
Just going by my own experience
TV - we've never got to 'end of life' with our main TV. Like others we replace as the technology improves. Currently our main TV is a Panasonic Viera - 9 years old. I would like it to fail so we can replace it as it is a Plasma! We also have a Samsung LED Smart which is less than two years and we have had to get the speaker replaced under guarantee.
Washing machine - currently a 14 year old Zanussi which has been very reliable up until now, the electrics seems to be going so we will be replacing soon - possibly with a Samsung Ecobubble
Oven - had a Belling for 13 years. A couple of issues with the rings that were easily fixed. Replaced with another Belling only as we wanted a range.
Microwave - replaced our ancient hand me down with a more modern model which lasted about 6 years. Replaced it with a Panasonic that lasted less than a year - got it replaced under guarantee and still going 5 years later. None as good as the original!
Fridge-Freezer - 8 years before the back of the fridge blew rendering it unfixable
Boiler - Not sure as we've never had to replace one although we fitted a new one 4 years ago when we moved to our current house0 -
