And what makes you think it will not be extended again like the last 20 times? (That may be a slight exageration, but the first end date I heard of was pre 2006).
From the ENA consultation:
"Due to the fact that it is no longer used by the majority of Access Providers they have stated that they have no intention of running the Radio Teleswitching system past 31 March 2020."
As this is the official position, Scottish Power should be acting now rather than banking on another extension being agreed. The industry isn't going to shell out hard cash to keep the system going indefinitely when the majority of them get no benefit from it.
(Personally, I'd like to see it retained and developed further - it could surely achieve many of the variable tariff and demand management functions we're currently told will only be possible with smart meters.)0
