Complicated car question?

Firstly, sorry for jumping straight in with a question!
OH has an appointment on Monday at the court to declare himself bankrupt, we've had advice from the CCCS but unlike most of you here it seems that we've maybe been unlucky with the advisors we've spoken to because they don't seem to properly know their stuff as far as BR is concerned.
Anyway, the situation we have with car is this - I was left a sum of money by my grandmother last year which, along with the previous car as part-ex bought our current car. The car was purchased in OH's name, and he's the registered keeper too, but does that actually make it his car when it was bought with my money? It's only worth £1900-£2250 anyway, and he relies on it to travel to and from work so hopefully it wouldn't cause problems, but we were hoping someone here might be able to advise?
Also, can someone clarify the situation with my credit card - OH is a named cardholder and as I understood it that means I'm responsible for that card and any amount owed on it, so doesn't need to go on the forms? CCCS however said yes it does have to go on there - who is right?
Thanks in advance.

The registration document states that the registered keeper ( the name on the document) is not necessarily the owner of the vehicle. If you have any paperwork or receipts showing your name on the purchase documents then you should have no trouble. If you don`t have anything then you may have a battle. but remember that any decision made by the OR is open to appeal.
Regarding the cards, I`m not 100% sure as OH and I both went BR so the issue never arose.
Others will be along to help you here
Good luck

With Bat and my input we can probably get the value to the OR down to about £2.50 any way as it`s our specialist area....:rotfl:

So bearing in mind that it's probably going to be seen to be his despite me paying £1450 of the cost of it (the recipt was in his name - if only we'd known then what would happen 12 months down the line!), would it be best to list it as his car on the form, OR do we put it in the section for cars you have the use of owned by someone else and explain about him being the registered keeper of it and how the purchase was funded in the extra information section at the back?
I know if necessary I can get a letter from my mum stating that the x amount of money was paid to by her me on y date, and surely it would follow that the only source of the money that paid for the car was that cheque?
Couldn't make this more complicated if I tried could I....?0 -
That's the line I would take and see what happens.purple_piglet wrote: »So bearing in mind that it's probably going to be seen to be his despite me paying £1450 of the cost of it (the recipt was in his name - if only we'd known then what would happen 12 months down the line!), would it be best to list it as his car on the form, OR do we put it in the section for cars you have the use of owned by someone else and explain about him being the registered keeper of it and how the purchase was funded in the extra information section at the back?

As sooon as you put that it`s his car then you may have a mountain to climb.
I would put it in the other section and be prepared for an argument. You never know though, the OR may just take it at face value first time.

re the bank card, i would take you oh off the card just in case....either way, if you are the main card holder, you should be ok but probably best to take him off just in case and that way you won't be lying when you don't put that CC down on the form iyswim0
