I booked a room months ago for tonight through Expedia. A week ago I decided to cancel this booking as it wasn't needed. I tried to do this via the Expedia website but as I had booked the room without creating an account, there didn't seem to be a way of doing this.
I checked the confirmation email which had come from the hotel and it states that if the room was cancelled two days prior to arrival, there would be no charge. There were no details on how to do the cancellation. I emailed the hotel twice advising them of the cancellation but got no reply. I tried calling but they didn't answer. I left a voicemail telling them I was cancelling.
Tonight I was charged for the room. Expedia weren't particularly helpful and said I should've cancelled through them (I tried and failed) and the hotel is still not replying to emails.
Any advice on how to proceed with this would be much appreciated!

No way to proceed. You should have cancelled through the method you booked. You didn't so were charged and lose the money.
You should've been contacting Expedia not the hotel.0 -
For future reference I beleive you have to call Expedia for cancelations if you don't have an account but booked through them.0

I have heard a lot of such situations and I never use Expedia! Anyway, you should try to call Exoedia and cancele this booking.0

You don't need an account to cancel. if you click on the itinerary number in your confirmation email, it takes you to your booking and all the options are available there, including the option to cancel (unless it is a non-refundable booking). The expedia webpage also displays their phone number should you wish to contact them.
I don't think you have much comeback on this - you didn't cancel via the proper method and same channel through which you booked. Expedia will just direct you to the T&Cs that you accepted when placing the booking.Mortgage = [STRIKE]£113,495 (May 2009)[/STRIKE] £67462.74 Jun 20190
