When opening a debit card am I allowed to send it to a different address?

Hey guys, I'm 17 and I want to open a debit card with nationwide. My parents don't like me having my own freedom and they don't let me have a debit card because they want to see what I'm doing with my money. The money I make from work goes directly into my mothers account and I am not allowed to spend it on anything that I want. I wan't to open my own bank account to have a bit of financial freedom, just an issue I have, is there anyway to send the debit card to a different address when making it and not my own address where my parents will see? Or is there anyway I can collect it from the branch? I really don't know how I'm going to go past this and I don't want to book an appointment to make a card then find out I can't have it sent to a different address.

Anyone have any knowledge on this?
Thank you!

Why not phone the bank and ask their advice?

What are your parents going to say when the money stops being paid into your mother's account?

I'm not sure if you're trying to keep the new account a secret or just trying to get your hands on the card before your mother finds out but I can see this ending in a big argument.

I don't think your parents actions are at all reasonable (unless maybe you have a history you're not disclosing on here) but if it were me I'd be asking myself "is it really worth the drama" before I proceeded.

Collect card from branch is usually an option for people who have an insecure mailbox.

You'd also need to ask for online statements and opt out of postal marketing, but be aware that the bank will probably send an annual statement by post.

As above if you state that you have a shared mailbox when applying the card will usually be sent to a branch for collection, but there could still be other letters/statements sent.

Apply for a Monzo account, the card can be sent to any address you like and there are no paper statements etc. as it's app-based.

If you open a Starling Bank or Monzo account on their smartphone app the address you give us only for the purpose of card delivery, so it doesn't have to be where you are actually living. Apart from the card, they send no further mail, so you can update it to your real address later. But you will need a passport or driving licence to identify yourself during the opening process.

When are you 18? I bet you're counting the days.

As someone else said, what will your mum say once your wages stop appearing?

This week, that your wages go into your mum's account is legal.

As soon as you hit 18, it isn't wholly & without knowing why it started, I'd say WHY? as how will you learn if you can't make the occasional gaffe?

Wanting to see what you're doing doesn't need to include policing every tuppence & there's no reciprocity or protection for you. Indeed I'd suggest it's training you to enter a financially coercive relationship and therefore the sooner you have an alternative account (and possibly the screaming row associated therewith) the better.
