Mortgage offer addressed to only one borrower

Hi! I’m wondering if anyone applying for a joint mortgage is having the same issue with their mortgage offer being addressed to only 1 of the 2 borrowers?
The one we have received has a covering letter which addresses only the first named applicant, meaning I had to open my husband’s mail to have sight of a loan for which I’m jointly responsible. Is it just my mortgage lender doing this, or is is standard practice?

Yes! Ours arrived from Nationwide yesterday only addressed to my Husband.0

Oh I’m so glad it’s not just me. Same provider. Did you complain?0

I'm not bothered really - just presumed it was because he was the 1st Applicant name. But because of that, I didn't realise at first it was the mortgage offer!0

I've noticed a lot of companies do this with joint accounts - I am the one that manages the finances, not my husband! Ugh. Is your husband the higher earner? I wondered if that may be the reason with ours, but some companies have no excuse.0

Our Nat West offer was addressed to both of us.0

He’s the higher earner, and the IFA entered his name first on the application. Then the Nationwide system took only the first applicants name and put it on the covering letter which is what shows through the window of the envelope. Effectively addressing the mortgage offer to my husband even though I am jointly responsible for it.
I also didn’t realise what it was, straight away. I complained. Was told that they can’t address the covering letter to both of us. They also don’t send an extra copy of the mortgage offer to the other person on the mortgage, unless they live at different addresses as I understood it.
Wondering if it’s limited to Nationwide, so very interesting to hear NatWest address both.0 -
My name was first. I earn more than my husband. However he never even spoke to our mortgage advisor I sorted all the finances out so I'm guessing my details were put in first.0

Oh it was a nationwide mortgage too0

Thanks for your reply. I really appreciate it. Could you tell me, (if you can remember), whether your husbands name was on the covering letter that wrapped round the mortgage offer and goes in the envelope with the window in it?0

I've only got the PDF from Natwest that was emailed to us at the moment, which lists both names (mine first - female, higher earner), but just noticed that the letter within it is addressed to Dear Sirs!!!
Awaiting the postal version with great interest now... We're Dr & Mr so I'm assuming this is how the 'sirs' assumption has occurred.0
