After 2 road collisions in less than a year (neither of which were my fault) I'm now thinking about getting a dash cam for my car. I haven't had one before so I'm a bit overwhelmed by the amount of options that are out there, although I do know I'd prefer to have one which can record both forward and rear-facing views in one (as oppose to one where you have to get an additional rear-facing camera and attach it separately). What would you suggest?

I think you will find that the rear camera sticks to the rear window and then you have to route a cable from there to the camera on the front window. Most of these dual cameras work that way. I have only a front dashcam Apeman C420 at £23 (plus SD card) its very small but works well and I just connect to the 12v power socket. Hard wire connection kits are available for about £30 and Halfords do a fitting service. If you do hard wire then most cameras havea function whereby if your car gets hit when parked the camera turn on and records.
Why not take a look at an instruction manual for a camera such as the one in the post above.

This is a good camera as you can get a wiring kit so its always active - even when parked - catch the supermarket door benders!0 -

Or just fit 2 separate cameras taking power at the rear.0 -
I've had one of these for just under a year now. Not had any issues with it.

They do go on lightening deal at around £44 occasionally which is when I bought mine. Comes with a pretty long wire if you dont want to hardwire. Mine goes through the roof lining, down the door column, under the carpet and to the rear power point. Didnt want an obvious dashcam so with no screens so it's exactly as I wanted. You just download the app and then connect to the dashcam wifi to download footage which is taken in roughly 3 minute segments. If you want to take pictures you just wave your hand underneath it. You can use your phone and app on realtime whilst using it but I just wanted something to plug in and forget about unless needed. Think the hardwire kit was around £10 if needed. You also need a memory card.0
