Bit late to this thread but yes agree with the advice re hot wash & vinegar etc.
Do you use liquitabs? If so try changing over to powder. I had some laundry smelling (heavy cottons mainly) after washing and changing to powder eliminated the smells.0 -
I always do bedding and towels at 40. Nothing yucky about it. They come out perfectly clean.0

I went through a phase of washing at 30, trying to be eco-friendly. Just ended up with smelly clothes. And really, what are you saving? You're still using detergent, you're still using water, you're just using a teeny bit less electricity.
Manufacturers have started putting '30' on the labels because it makes them look eco-friendly - in actual fact the fashion industry is one of the least eco-friendly industries on the planet. Most things can be washed at 40 - you need to be careful with wool, but that's all really.
I wash 'normal' clothes at 40, sheets and towels at 60, wool on the wool wash, and once a month I save up all my dusters etc and put them through on a 90 wash. No more smelly clothes.
Another thought - if the clothes are hanging around damp for too long they will start to smell. Get them outside for a good blow in the fresh air.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0
