google toolbar virus

Appreciate any help here - my google toolbar has been infected and now automatically opens with unwanted yahoo toolbars which have dodgy adult drop down menu options.

I've tried adaware and avg virus runs on this but no luck in getting rid of this. Can anybody suggest an anti virus tool that gets rid of this. Thanks

Have you uninstalled the google toolbar? It used to just freeze on me but I don't know if it had a virus. I use AVG and it didn't say there was one. So I unstalled it and now use the one that comes with Firefox instead.

the best way is to scan hijack this. Be sure you know what to delete. If you aren't, there are many forums where you can post the log from hijack this and they will guide on on what to delete.

  • Have you tried a couple of online scans eg, pandasoftware, trend, kaspersky beta.

If you do ditch it remember that system restore facility will still have this in back up unless you delete then all - that way if you rol back you will not reinfest yourself.

Halycon - yes I'm afraid it is the elite toolbar problem.

Terrymats - excuse my ignorance here but what do you mean by hijacking and how do you go about it ? cheers

    Hi,

"hijack this" is a software which will give you raw details of what programs are running on your system and what zones are configured as trusted zones in your IE. You can then delete the rogue elements from this program itself. I've been using it to an exceptionally good success. It will detect spywares which other softwares won't detect and is recommended only for people with indepth technical know how.

    Cheers
