Ebay refund still pending

Purchased a bluray player last week, but buyer informed me it is not working properly, so agreed to a refund.

This was 5 days ago and my refund is still pending, is this normal?

When I refund it's instantaneous.

Pending where? It may be that the seller had no funds in their Paypal account at the time of refund, which means it would be refunded as an echeque.

If you view the transaction it might tell you when it’s due to clear.

Message in ebay states:

The seller cancelled your order and sent you a refund. We'll send a confirmation email soon

Status: The cancellation is pending

Still haven't received my refund.

Did you have the cash in PayPal or was it to come from your bank, to PP to the seller?

If the latter then PP need to receive your payment from the bank before they can refund you.

If you paid by card using PP it would still be the latter.

Payment was made via card in Paypal, still haven't received my refund. Never had this happen to me before where a refund took over a week.

It is frustrating but sometimes they aren't all that quick. Paypal do say up to 30 days for a card refund.

It may also be the delay is down to the seller refunding though their card/account with no funds.

How is a refund made through PayPal returned?

How your money is refunded depends on how you made the original payment.
If your payment came from your card, it will be refunded to that card. If the card you paid with is closed or invalid, the money will still be refunded to your credit card account.
If your payment came from your bank account, it will be refunded to that bank account.
If your payment came from your PayPal balance, it will be refunded to your PayPal balance.
