According to the OP - No. It really would let the OP move forward if they try it first.0 -
Thank you
we are going to ask him later, I have a feeling he won't give us the VIN because this will add another keeper on the car logbook.
it's just this new DVLA system of tax is sometimes is unfair, £125 may not be much for some people but it is for some of us, I had to pay another £125 for the car I have now.
I don't think anyone would much care how many owners a rusty 2003 wreck would have.
FYI If you reported an MOT that was over 3 months old the DVSA would have a total disinterest in even looking at the car
The most important thing you might take away from this is that a car with a short MOT is at worst worth £100 per ton mixed metals at the crusher.
I hope he doesn't argue that he only agreed to take back the car on condition that the tax money was his.0 -
I got the form but it asks for VIN of the car which I don't have
I didn't either, as the car I purchased broke down twice trying to get it home, the RAC came out after the first breakdown, following me home it packed in again and they took me and the car back to the trader, all paperwork was returned with the car. hence I called the DVLA and asked them what I had to do, they said just give as much information as you can and they can deal with it.
As I would only get a percentage of £5 back of the £30 tax I paid I didn't bother as I ain't that desperate for a few pennies. Had it been the amount you paid i would have.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
Cant you get a cheap hpi check on the the car using the reg, that would give you the vin number? Or try a local main dealer, ask them if you give the reg, can they give you the vin number?“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

UPDATE for anyone who may end up in the same position,
I had to chase the seller for the VIN number for nearly 2 weeks, (every time there was an excuse why he couldn't give the VIN), anyway, I filled up the form and sending back, I received my refund through the post and they deducted 1 month.
Thank you, everyone, for sharing information and advice.0
