Best way to successfully reclaim Littlewoods Extra Care 500 PPI?

With the deadline fast approaching I have finally gotten around to checking for PPI. I am in the process of checking with my bank and credit cards and also decided to check my Littlewoods account. On calling them they confirmed that I had a service called Extra Care Active between 2004 and 2018 when I closed my catalogue account with them (was no longer using them).

They confirmed that this is indeed a form of PPI. Therefore I would be interested in reclaiming anything I may be owed on this. I know the catalogue account was only used very occasionally and only for small purchase amounts and as such I suspect any PPI sold wold have been completely unnecessary.

I am writing to ask if any other members have had any success in claiming back Extra Care 500 PPI? and if so what route did you take to complaining about it?

Did you call them or instead complete the questionnaire on the Littlewoods PPI And Purchase Insurance page, or is there a faster or more direct route to take that is more likely to get a positive outcome?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Choose the one that suits you best.

Neither will result in a more positive outcome.

Calling them would probably mean they would post a form. Their website form would surely be the quickest way?

Did you actually spread the cost of your small purchases? If you didn't take advantage of any credit it's unlikely you paid PPI. If you did pay it you would need better misselling reason than it was a small purchase.
  • Yes, I am certain the option to spread purchases over a number of smaller payments was used.

Could you better explain what you mean about misselling reason?

The information I have read online that advocates PPI claims tends to suggest that just having had PPI is a good enough reason to claim for it. Whilst I am certain I did not specifically ask for it (it was recommended to me) I don't really see how I can be expected to prove it was mis-sold especially all those years ago (had it since 2004).

That said I would argue that the wording is a kind of misselling in and of itself (i.e. dressing PPI up in different names like extra care 500 etc), I am sure they at no point called it plain old PPI...

You need to tell them why you believe it was mis sold. Just having PPI wasn't an offence.

You need to give valid reasons why you feel it was missold in order to raise a complaint. And yes it is reasonable to expect you to do this. It would have also been reasonable for you to have said "No" at the time it was offered and it would also have been reasonable for you to read your statements which would have shown if you paid anything.
