Euro Car Parks & DRP

My daughter parked in a carpark that Euro Car Parks (ECP from now on) patrols, but to get to it you have to go through a Council run car park. The council one has free parking after 18:30 and she didn't notice that the ECP one charged 24/7 even though it was only yards away. ECP sent her a letter to my house which I duly passed on without opening it. She binned it. A second letter came which was again passed on and again she binned it. The next day another letter came so I passed this one on also - this time it was another parking bill for another time. The letters come here because at the time of parking the car was registered here but she has now moved. Now we have threatening letters from DRP for the first offense.

My daughter is adamant she isn't paying, but I don't want a black mark against this house.

DRP has put 26/6 as a "pay up or else" date on their letter and included an extra £60.00 for the privilege of paying and ECP 28 days from 14/6.

I'm not really in a mind to pay these on her behalf so can I just tell them she doesn't live here any longer and refuse to tell them where she lives now?

Cheers Carpetman

This needs moving to the parking sub-forum.

I am certainly no expert in civil parking cases however I do know that the old tactic of just ignoring things and hoping they are forgotten or disappear is only going to lead to a load of aggro.

Ultimately it's your daughter's issue so you can tell the appropriate people to jog on but you might wish to consider where this leaves her.

You can't get a black mark against a house - any kind of debt etc is linked to a person, not an address.

I'm not a lawyer, but I don't believe you're any way obligated to help a company to find someone's new address. Just return the letters to the sender.
However, they can probably find that info from DVLA (assuming her vehicle is now registered to her current address).

Get her to pop over to the parking tickets sub-forum : https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163

There is loads of information there about dealing with parking tickets.

Just burying her head in the sand is unlikely to end well.

There will be no black marks of death on your front door - if you apply for credit in the future the lender may link a person with a CCJ to your address, when it gets that far if she refuses to pay. As long as you update the electrol roll so she isn't living there any more there isn't much you can do.

Oh and if you do get a knock on the door by bailiffs looking to remove goods, best make sure you have some proof that she doesn't live with you and all registration documents and receipts for expensive items to hand.

This needs to be on the parking tickets board. You could also mention if this is England,Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
