Records for day spent in A & E?

I recently spend a day in A & E where I had a series of tests carried out. Should I get any record of this ?. To date I have had no confirmation of my visit. I have phoned the hospital several times to ask, but only get a pre recorded answerphone and no one phones back.

Or will a record go straight to my GP? If so. How can I see this.? My GP is not set up for patients to have on line access to their records.

The results will go to your GP.

No GP will let you check your medical records online. You have to go and see them.

You can request to have a print out of your medical records under GPS(think it is that?) but it can take up to two months to have a full record going back 5 years.

I can read my medical records any time I choose in the comfort of my own home. I can also see all my test results.

If your GP is on the electronic records system you have a choice of apps you use.

I also order repeat prescriptions from the app.

They carried out a number of tests in A&E including blood and urine tests. They did not tell me what these tests were.for. Only that they were OK. I should like to know what I was tested for, and the results. If you have been in a busy A&E you will know that you get processed according to a standard routine without a great deal of explanation from the staff.

My GP has an on line appointments system with the capability of on line records access . It has not yet implemented the records access part.

Bloods and urine are standard tests in a and e.

Maybe telling us why you went there might help us give you more info. Also if they said your results were ok then surely that means you don’t have anything to worry about after the visit

you can ask the GP practice for a copy of the results from your note - or you could have a telephone consultation to have the results explained to you

My surgery I can order my prescriptions online, but no you cannot read your medical records. I hope your app has good anti-virus as if you are hacked then they can read all your sensitive medical information.

I don't think you can get an anti-virus on an iPhone. It uses fingerprint ID secondary to the phones.

Ask your Gp practice to have electronic access and you can have it. Personally I use the Evergreen app but others are available.

I am not worrying. I should merely like to know what I was tested for, and the results, for future reference. If you are happy with being told all clear and have no fesire to know more, that is fine for you but I am interested and would like to know.

OP...what do you mean about “confirmation” of your visit? Are you expecting a letter, thanking you for attending?

In reality.....your results would have been checked during your A&E visit, or, if you were discharged before the results were ready, they would have been checked by the doctor or nurse after you left. If there was any anomaly in your results, you would have been treated there and then, referred onto a specialist if necessary, or you would receive a letter asking you to contact your GP to discuss your results. If everything is fine, you won’t have any further contact. A record of your visit will be sent to your GP. If you have any questions, you should contact your surgery, although if you are perfectly fine, please don’t waste a valuable appointment, just to get “confirmation” of your attendance, if there were any problems, your GP will be aware.

However.....things do get missed, results get lost and patients do “slip through the net” occasionally, so I don’t blame anyone for chasing up results if they haven’t heard anything back. But if you are well now, you were told that your results were normal, and the A&E visit wasn’t for anything serious, it doesn’t sound as though you have anything to worry about.
