Hi
Wondering if anyone can help me. I have recently upgraded my Digital Camera from the quite basic Fuji FinePix A303 to the Lumix DMC-LZ6.
On paper the Lumix is fantastic and has everything that I wanted, but thus far I've not been too impressed with some of the pictures its taken of people and faces.
It appears on some pics that the person nearest in the foreground has a really whitened skin tone, whilst people at the back of the shot tend to look ok (which makes the picture look stupid and odd!)
I am relative novice at digital photography, the camera has loads of settings to change White Balance, Exposure, Shutter speed etc but I am not really sure where to start!
Can anyone advise if they have had this problem before? is it a common photography error and if there is anything I can change on either the camera or my way of taking photos to correct the image.....
Am off to NYC in December so under strict orders from the wife to sort this out before we go - otherwise it may mean i need to get another new camera
Help!!!

Ok, i have a Panny FZ5 (the 12x zoom one). Does this only happen when you've got the flash on? It sounds like a case of standing too near to the subject when the flash goes off.
It might be better to stand a little back, then zoom in a bit.
If this isn't the case, posting a photo here might help, we could get an idea what the problem is then.0 -
hi
yeah always when using the flash, and your right i am probably standing too close or something stupid like that......
is there any other reason why this may be so?0 -
Have you got the scene mode at correct setting???
18 Scene Modes to Cover A Wide Variety of Shots- Portrait Mode: This mode helps you take beautiful portraits by adjusting the exposure and coloration to produce natural, true-to-life skin tones.
- Scenery Mode: This mode provides quick focusing and crisp detail, for beautiful photos of scenery.
- Sports Mode: Uses a high shutter speed to catch moving subjects.
- Night Scenery Mode This mode allows you to record the nightscape vividly by reducing the shutter speed. The flash setting is fixed to Forced OFF.
- Night Portrait Mode: Captures people and night landscapes clearly and beautifully.
- Soft Skin Mode: The camera detects the face or skin area to achieve a smoother appearance of the skin than portrait mode.
- Food Mode This mode allows you to take pictures of food with a natural hue without being affected by the ambient light in restaurants etc.
- Party Mode: Makes it possible to take clear, beautiful pictures by capturing the warm and rich nuances of light and atmosphere.
- Candle light Mode: This mode allows you to take pictures with a candle-lit atmosphere. You can take successful pictures without using the flash.
- Fireworks Mode: his mode allows you to take beautiful pictures of fireworks exploding in the night sky.
- Starry Sky Mode: By making the shutter speed slower, this mode allows you to take vivid pictures of a starry sky or a dark subject that you could not take in [NIGHT SCENERY].
- Beach Mode: This mode allows you to take pictures on a beach. It prevents under exposure of the subject due to strong sunlight.
- Snow Mode: This mode will adjust the white balance and the exposure to show the snow as white as possible.
- Aerial Photo Mode: This mode allows you to take pictures through an airplane window.
- Baby1, Baby2 Modes: This mode takes pictures of a baby with a healthy complexion. When the flash is used, the light from it is weaker than usual. You can set the birthdays of two babies (Baby1 and Baby2). The baby's age can then be displayed when playing back pictures.
- Pet Mode
- Sunset Mode
- High Sensitivity Mode: Select this mode for high-sensitivity processing. You can take pictures at ISO 3200 sensitivity.

Do you mean 'why am I standing too close?'... can't answer that.
But if you stand too close with flash this will happen.0 -

I tend to just use the "normal setting" - is that bad??? - seems a bit arduous to change the scene setting each time - but I bet i'll get shouted at now for having rubbish pics for being too lazy?
