  • Why would I pay for it to be fixed? I understand the vendor doesn’t care but the structural engineer will also sign of the property?

If you are intent on buying then I would make your offer accordingly based on the surveys you have - it will be accepted or declined.

The engineer will not sign off the work or the property.
  • Foxy I’ve already spoken to the engineer and yes they do. 12 years.

Who said you had to pay for it? You renegotiate. You have no control over who does it if she commissions it.
Fine if you don't mind but I'd actually be keen to see what's in the ground so I can understand the house better.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
  • Hi doozergirl I find the vendors negotiator is s but rubbish.
I’m being told by the vendor that there is no structural movement despite her engineer saying there is, and my two paid surveys. She’s also said that “it’s not a big problem and easily” fixed despite her engineer not being sure what the issue are (still had to investigate further).

So you trust her to fix it?

  • Hi doozergirl, yeah why not? She’s not the one doing the work, she’s paying for it. There are plenty of things I can do to mitigate risk. After all the engineer will sign of the work and I need to know what needs to be done and by whom.

At this moment in time all I’m concerned about is what caused the damage. Until I have that info I can’t comment about future events.

Engineer merely confirms some work has been done as per a drawing. So what, that would mean nothing to me. If you had a Building Control Officer sign off the works, that would mean something.

Up to you but as you have not exchanged contracts then you could pull out at any time.
  • Hi Foxy, I’m planning to get my own structural engineer to sign of the property.
  • Hi foxy sorry I read whilst at work. I’ve been using a chartered structural engineer as per the requests of the mortgage company. So has the vendor.
