Hi
I bought a front door from Safestyle UK a few weeks ago. I enquired online, they called me and then a salesman came to the house. We were offered a significant discount if we agreed to the purchase that day and paid a deposit, I foolishly paid the full amount then and there.

A couple of weeks later the installer came and fitted the door, everything was fine but he hadn't put the numbers on the door. He explained that they weren't in the installation pack but not to worry because someone would come and fit them a few days later, we wouldn't need to be at home. Because of this and after speaking to his supervisor and explaining the numbers still hadn't been fitted, I signed the completion form.

Nobody came despite a number of calls to arrange this final fitting. Finally today (June 19) I spoke to somebody who told me that they wouldn't be able to fit the numbers because they wouldn't fit on the door because of where the knocker had been placed. If the numbers had been in the installation pack the fitter would have put the knocker in a lower position so the numbers could still be installed. On each visit and survey we informed Safestyle representatives that we wanted our number on the door.

Safestyle have accepted liability but they are only prepared to offer £20 to go toward a wall plaque and that's as far as they are prepared to go. In total the door cost £1260 so I don't feel their offer is very fair (about 1.7% of the amount I paid them). What are my rights in this case and how/should I pursue it further.

Thank you

Take the 20 quid and buy some stick on numbers from Poundland. Be sure to fit them the right way round though . .

£20 seems reasonable to get some numbers with. They are quite cheap on eBay and available in all different styles. You can fit them exactly where you want them, I'm sure the knocker isn't so big that there's no room left.

Wow £1260 for just a replacement front door...

For the future, local double glazing firms are far cheaper than national ones (literally less than half the price)

A local firm replaced all our 8 windows, french doors and a new composite front door for less than £4000

If you've bought 3 and 5 and need 5 and 3, Poundland are pretty good with exchanges.

What costs £1 for one, £1 for two, £2 for 26 and only £3 for 224?

Someone apparently needed 692 and that was only £3!
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
