On what basis did you appeal? By which I mean as you were not driver nor keeper of the vehicle, who did you say you were in relation to the vehicle?
Apart from the points already made that they have no right to be there at all, they can threaten court action all they like. They have no case against YOU. They may want to pursue the actual keeper of the vehicle, but they'd need to conform to POFA for that, which is unlikely in the circumstances.
