DUTR - I mean to cause you no offence but the vid was for everyone just so they can see it explained better by a motor trader.
But once you get the V5 back you're either going to get pulled or they'll stop looking for it because the marker will be on your car.0 -
I know and again I agree but at this minute just going on advice of the police until its re-registered and they advise me further. I don't know the process but will find out soon hopefully. It was suggested by a colleague that new plate registration may be required but who knows...0

I hope you're not waiting for the police to tell you. You're unlikely to hear from then again.0 -
ha ha. I'll be chasing them up for sure, definitely not waiting on them, that would be a VERY long wait indeed!0

You've no rights to any updates on the progress of their investigation.0 -
Can I ask approximately what value of car you were selling? I would imagine it must be well north of 10K for someone to go to all this bother. I mean after they've sold the cloned car from the address, they presumably can't live there anymore so a lot of bother for them to set up this fraud and pull it off?0

It was reported to them what they do from there I don’t know as they wouldn’t say. My guess is if it pings an ANPR they will look at it.
The hope is they’re investigating but we all know how stretched they are and I doubt this will be top of their list. Once it’s re-registered I will simply ask for what their guidance is.
Ed- Value was only just north of that figure so it does seem like a lot of bother and big risk but I doubt it’s just one car to that address they’ve done so collectively could be worth a lot more - who knows0 -

Same as it would be now, get a sticker something unique and put it in a visible place on the back screen. Ring the police and tell them what you've done. They'll put a second report on the car saying the genuine vehicle has x sticker.
In all likelihood the first time the clone trips anpr will probably when the innocent purchaser is driving it.0 -

Doesn't need to be all that high since they are selling a car that they don't have yet have documents for usually for well below the true value. If they can get 10 x £4k t hat's better than 2 x £10k. Ask David Rose of IOM fame.0 -
Hi rum punched,
Just a quickie to ask how you got on with resolving this issue. It just happened to me yesterday🙄🙄(exactly how you’ve written it), unbeknown to me whilst giving out the doc ref number (which I was aware I was doing) any tom, !!!! and Harry can change the name on the doc and cause havoc with your Reg plates however they see fit. In this day and age i struggle to believe that Dvla has zero online security?? Not even a DOB required, and according to them it’s my fault as the security is..........wait for it.........not giving out the number!! Well thank f*%k you’re here to help.
I’m aware this sits with me dishing out the number and trusting at the time that it can’t be that easy to change the names over but this is clearly something Dvla need to look at, even if it’s to save them selves a few quid by not having to ‘investigate’ every time this happens when a simple dob tab would put a stop to it.
Anyway, sorry I’m ranting, not at you but to give a better picture and help anyone else who’s reading or has fallen foul.
If you could let me know how you got on with resolving this, that would be great.
Many thanks FL0
