Any tips on a cheap yet reliable and good screen recording software I could use for training staff in software we use?

I use OBS, probably one of the best recording programs out there. Cant take a bit to set-up as there can be a lot of customisability e.g. bitrate, encoding type, but a tutorial will help you.1

This is what the internet say https://elearningindustry.com/top-10-free-camtasia-studio-alternatives
I've used PSR (windows which is more of a jpg steps recorder. Obs Studio, camstudio and Flashback and Fraps.
Obs studio captured one whole full screen, which is not always what I wanted.
Camstudio was buggy on windows 7 (was last modified in 2013), and is unsupported.
Fraps did sometimes crash, but recorded no sound
PSR works for paper windows tutorials but it is not that special.
My favourite is Flashback, but they keep changing their demo product, and the last one I looked at had watermarks, The one previous (the one I currently use) had no watermarks, but could only save one of two formats. The one previous to that could save in 4 formats. The software is stable, rarely crashes, you can capture portions of the screen, or in my case all three screens (viewing is a bit small though), and it highlights left and right mouse clicks (selectable in the options in one version). TURN OFF THE AUTOMATIC UPDATES, if you decide to use this product as you will find features appearing and dissapearing0 -
If you're using Windows 10 there's one built in for free. Press [greenhighlight]⊞ Win[/greenhighlight] + [greenhighlight]G[/greenhighlight] whilst looking at the application you want to record, and then click Yes on the message that appears.1

At work, we use Jing (from techsmith.com).
It does both screengrab (i.e. like a screenshot but you can add arrows, boxes, etc before saving it) and (AFAIK) screen recording as well.
I think the screen recordings go are saved as flash files but I'm not sure.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -

Have you tried installing software like Debut-Video-Capture and Screen-Recorder by NCH?
It's available for both Windows and Mac.
(It might appear in a very traditional outlook but you can customize your recordings more than some other apps online.)

I've tried the NCH one, OBS, CamStudio, and RecMaster. Honestly, nearly all of those screen recording software could help you work out a screencast. What varies one to another is the ease-of-use and setting options.-1

OBS is also free.0 -
Another vote for the built in screen recorder in Windows 10, simply because it's already there. It's a bit limited but works well if you want to stay within one full-screen application.0
