PPI Claim on "sold" debt

First of all, apologies if this has been asked a thousand times before. I have a couple of credit card debts that have been sold on to Debt Management companies. When I have contacted the original provider to try and claim PPI, they have advised me to contact the Debt Management company. When I contact the Debt Management co - they tell me to contact the original provider. Can anyone advise please? I appreciate I might not get any actual money, but it could help to reduce the debt owed. many thanks
