Is it legal to drive a car with a wing mirror missing
My car was hit by a driver who drove off tonight, I am wanting to get a new wing mirror tomorrow as it's smashed off. Is it legal to drive without a drivers side wing mirror? I need to travel to a place to get one tomorrow.
I think you only legally have to have 2 mirrors, but I can't remember if it doesn't matter which 2 or if it has to be the drivers one and the rear view one.
TIA for any help

One day I might be more organised...........

No. There must be a mirror on the drivers side and either an internal one or a passenger wing mirror to count as the second but the drivers side is compulsory.
HOWEVER, I wouldn't be worried about being pulled for it. I don't recall ever hearing of someone who has and at worst, you'll get a pink slip which you need to take to a garage within 14 days to get it stamped to say you've done the repair.0 -

I didn't think wing mirrors were mandatory provided you have an internal rear view mirror? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I was hit on my bike by a driver who had no passenger-side wing mirror. He "just didn't see me"
The police agreed with him, not me.
People, get your mirrors and use them, please.0 -

I alos had my wing mirror smashed by a jerk zooming past me the other night in a transit van.He shot out from behind a row of parked cars and smashed my wing mirror.Luckily it was only the glass that was broken and I got another one for £20, but didn't even stop:mad:   .I drove to the car parts place without the mirror and would have told the police what had happened if i'd been stopped;)"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Bottom line is, it's such a minor and unoticeable offence, don't worry about being caught.0

In this sort of case getting the registration is paramount. Failing to stop is a specific offence the Transit driver could be charged with. Although with it just being a wing mirror I doubt it would get the police off their tea break.0 -
It was pitch black at night and he was driving at about 50 miles an hour, so it was impossible tbh.I did stop cos I was shaken up, as the bang when my wing mirror hit the side of the car was so loud i thought he'd actually smashed into the side of my car.I also know the poilice wouldn't give a sh*t so didn't waste my breath ringing them:rolleyes: :rolleyes:In this sort of case getting the registration is paramount.
