    So 3500 units in a year - about average. At say 18p that's £65-70 for electric alone. Add gas and standing charges that's about £110.




    How about your shower - 2 15min showers a day = about 1400 units alone. ?

    I assume you mean that all your DDs have been paid but that your direct debit balance happens to be negative at the moment? That's fine, they shouldn't be able to block your switch.

    If you haven't paid as asked and are therefore in debt, they can't stop you switching if the debt is less than £500. However, the new supplier would have to agree to take on this debt if it remains outstanding.

    BTW, the portable box (IHD) is for amusement only. The smart meter is fixed to the wall and does all the work regardless of the condition of the IHD.
