Getting out of magazine subscription - help!

Hi folks,
long time lurker, first time poster :j
A couple of years ago I signed up to a magazine subscription by Cond! Nast. I tried to cancel it last year because I was moving away from home for a year. I emailed them countless times and they never cancelled it - I hadn't realised they'd taken the payment and my mother was still receiving the magazines at her address.
Whenever I email Cond! Nast they said they couldn't find evidence that I was a customer despite me including full name, address, all info on the plastic packet that the magazine comes in etc...
I emailed them again as they billed me again recently (either this month or last... can't remember off the top of my head) and they're saying that they still can't find me as a customer.... funny how they still manage to take my money
I have looked into it and realised it is a direct debit so can cancel that for future payments but will this affect credit rating? Is there any sort of remedy for the times that they have billed me when I've specifically asked them not to? I was thinking about trying to take it to an ombudsman but they've technically not given their final response so unsure if this is possible.
Tearing my hair out here and just want it sorted

Use the Direct Debit Guarantee to get the money back from your bank. Can't see it affecting your credit rating unless they sue you.0

Are you still getting sent the magazines ?
If so then I don't think you can just cancel the direct debit and assume that that will then be the end of it, as they're still supplying you with the goods, and so I don't think you can invoke the Direct Debit Guarantee.
Have you tried returning the magazines to the sender ?0 -
As above, use the DD guarantee to recover the amounts taken since you first notified them of cancellation. Use those notification emails to prove to the bank that the DD reversals are valid. And make sure you cancel/delete the DD.

Might be a means to access your account to ensure the subscription is properly cancelled / see the cancellation method required.0
