Tax credit renewal and pension additional contributions

So I'm renewing my tax credits and I'm confused as to how I should report my earnings with regards pension additional contributions.
My company has a pension scheme which they pay 5% into and I also make a voluntary contribution of 5%.
So say for example my last payslip of the 2018/2019 year states:
Total gross pay TD: 20000
Gross for Tax TD: 20000
Employee pension TD (Incl AVC) 1000
Employer pension TD: 1000
Do I state on my TC renewal that my earnings were £20000 - £1000 AVC?
Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

you should be able to take your earnings from your p60. you've already had the tax credit for your pension contribution as its taken from your salary before you start to pay tax on the rest.Last bet : 26th Oct 2006:j Debt free 25th Feb 2008:j Living "my" dream:T0

Not necessarily. Some employers take pension deductions before tax, others take them from the taxed pay.

Thank you for your replies. I appreciate you taking the time to reply.
I'm not really asking about the tax relief.
My question is regarding additional voluntary contributions and whether I should deduct these from my taxable when filling in my tax credit renewal.
For example as illustration only:
My annual salary is £20000.
I pay additional voluntary contributions to my company pension of £1000.
My P60 shows income £20000 and tax paid £1500.
It does not show any information on pension deductions.
So my question is whether I put my income as £20000 or £19000 on my tax credit renewal form?
Thanks in advance.0 -
Are the additional payments deducted from your salary before tax is deducted or do you pay them separately, from your net pay after tax has been deducted?0
