Why is it that every time I get a dreaded evil microsoft update when my computer rebooted it asks for a password even though I have set it up not to ask?

Why don't they stop sending our this rubbish?

Comments

  • Why not? I would go back to Windows 3.1 for networks and be done with it.

I have mine setup to login via PIN code as an alternative to a password. (The password is still needed initially).

You've doing something wrong because all my computers are not and never were set up for passwords either (they never have been) AND I can reboot until the cows come home and they've never ask for passwords ever.

Yes I should probably set one but that's not the point.

It is not "rubbish", just because your computer doesn't behave the way you want it to after a reboot is not the fault of Windows, Windows will only behave the way you you set it up.

Vital security updates are rubbish? That is not a good attitude to have. A minor inconvenience at times is a lot better than leaving security holes open that could end up causing you a lot of trouble.

Having a password on the login account makes certain things work better. SMB / CIFS is one of them.

If you don't have a password on the login account Windows will never ask you for a password to log in to that account as there isn't one that you can enter. The way you have phrased the opening post, while unclear, suggests that it is asking you for a password and you know what the password is, so there is a password on the account you are logging in to.

Er, pardon me but I use SMB shares on my NAS drive and Windows 10 can see and use them and I do not have a password on my Windows login account. Windows will ask for the details from the NAS share on the first setup, yes, but that's an entirely different thing.

Maybe because we had years of idiots who wouldn't update their systems helping to spread virus etc.
Millions of people have no problems with updates, so they can't be all bad....
