Is it fraud?

I’m wondering if some of this has come through National Hunter.
Your mum will need to contact Sainsbury’s and explain what happened- you helped her make the application but put in some of your details because of auto fill on your phone.0 -
OT but OP please dont saddle your parents with your lifestyle debts, its not fair.
Save up if you want a nice car!0 -
My mum has said she thinks they called me to try and scare me as noone has contacted her.
Does anyone think this might be the case?
No, absolutely not. Why would a company waste their time doing that?
Very very unlikely.Would the police get involved in something like this,?
NoShould I be concerned about them turning up at home or work?
Finance companies understand that they're dealing with humans and that humans make mistakes. The thing to do, is to get in touch with them and explain that it was a mistake. It was a genuine mistake
You mum is dead wrong on *all* these points - you need to get her to call the company. Twist her arm (not literally!), scream and shout, use emotional blackmail. She was willing to sign up for a loan to help you out - she should be willing to make a phone call for you!I've tried to get my mum to call but shes a bit of an ostrich. She said that I have nothing to worry about and I'm being silly.
She seems to think that without her actually making an issue out of this that ot will just go away and that they tried to scare me.
She said they dont even have my full name just my initial and surname, no date of birth, or address, just my telephone number.
She said they wont be able to do anything.0 -
Thank you, that's just what I needed to hear.
I've sat and cried all night about it because I've never done anything wrong in my life, I've never even had a parking ticket
B xxxxx
You're going to have to tell me how you've managed to pull that off! :A
I'd reiterate what most of the others are saying, worrying won't get you anywhere as you're hardly alone in this. My old man is a retired debt collector and the sheer enormity of mistaken/deceitful loans out there is hard to get your head around. Banks/police won't care one bit about a loan application that never went anywhere. TBF Donald Trump has lied when taking out several loans and he's in the White House:rotfl:0 -
my mum offered to get me a bank loan in her name, I dat and did the whole application cos my mums not that tech savvy.
My phone auto filled in some of the information which I didn't realise and therefore became a mismatch of me and my mum.
One item being my mobile number.
Do you know what other info your phone auto-filled in?An hour later another women called me from sainsburys saying that I'd committed fraud and blah blah blah.
Can you remember exactly what she said?So ask sburys second woman has put the fear of God into me now as I should have just explained but she said I was impersonating my mum.
Quite frankly your mum needs to pull her head out of the sand and give Sainsbury's a call. It may be too late already if they have already reported to CIFAS but she needs to understand what action they have taken and how this will affect her going forward.
Sainsbury's loan helpline: 08085 40 50 60
Lines are open: Mon - Fri 8am-10pm, Sat - Sun 8am-6pmWhat can happen now?
CIFAS Categories Explained

2 - Victim of Impersonation - Use, by another person, of this name and/or address.

4 - Application Fraud (Facility Refused) - Use of a name reasonably believed to be genuine, but with one or more material falsehoods in personal details or other relevant information -; the facility was refused.
5 - Conversion - Conversion (disposal or sale) of goods (to which the hirer/buyer does not have title) under a hire purchase, conditional sale, contract hire, leasing or rental agreement.
6 - First Party Fraud - Opening an account or other facility for a fraudulent purpose, or the fraudulent misuse of an account or facility.
7 - Aiding & Abetting - Aiding, abetting or assisting, or conspiring with, another or others to fraudulently procure credit, or other facilities, or hire products or services.
8 - Insurance Claims Fraud - The making of a claim(s) under one or more insurance policy (ies) with one or more material falsehoods or by presenting a false or forged document.
You would likely get a Cat1 or Cat4 marker and your mum could also get a Cat 1 or Cat7 marker depending on whether they think she was in cahoots with you, or if she was a victim of you impersonating her.
Having a CIFAS marker has serious repercussions for you both. Neither of you would be able to take out any form of credit for the next 6 years whether that be credit cards, bank accounts, loans, mortgage etc. And any bank accounts or credit cards either of you currently hold, if the lender runs monthly updates with the credit reference agencies, they are well within their rights to close your existing accounts due to the CIFAS marker.
It may have just been an "innocent mistake" however you both need to convince Sainsbury's of this as they are likely to have heard this excuse many times before. Hanging up the phone to them I suspect would also have compounded their evidence. Your mum needs to act fast and do damage limitation.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. Get your mum to call them. Reiterate to her just how whimsical (the first word I typed here was much more offensive) her suggestion that Sainsburys calls people just to 'scare them' is.
She's willing to stick her neck out to take out a loan in her name for you but unwilling to make a phone call to potentially stop a CIFAS marker??? Puzzling (again, the first word I typed here was much more offensive)Know what you don't0
