Should I demand an invoice from tradesman?

A trader gave me a quote by sms.
He then completed the job to my satisfaction and stayed within that quote.
However, he didn't provide an invoice, and he's now asking to pay by bank transfer.
I'm happy to do that: however, I'm not sure that this is the proper procedure.
I'm thinking about unlikely scenarios where he comes back asking for more money exploiting the fact that there isn't a written invoice. Am I being paranoid? Thanks!

Regardless of how you pay id be asking for a full receipt.0

Payment by bank transfer should be fine, in fact it implicitly tells you that the trader is keeping their finances above board.
However, I would expect an invoice to pay against.0 -
I would only pay after receiving an invoice, then get a receipt after payment but that's because I'm pedantic.0

You have a record of his quote on your phone & you'll have a record of your payment on your bank statement. I'd ask for a receipt but it's not the end of the world if you don't get one.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Agree. A text message confirming that the job is done and x is indeed due would top it off.
The request for a bank transfer is pleasing!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
