How much tax is he likely avoiding? Unless it's £20k+ then it's unlikely HMRC inspectors will be too interested. (I know one, and was speaking to him on Friday night. Sole traders tend to get away with it as the cost to pursue outweighs the resulting recovery).0

Shock horror. The builder actually responded and has come up with an acceptable payment plan. So as to not expose my banking details to him, and to provide an easier proof of payment / receipt audit trail we've agreed on personal PayPal payments.
Lets see if he sticks to his word.0 -
"Exposing" your bank account details doesn't really pose any risk ... after all, anyone you've sent a cheque to knows the same details.
Him setting up a Standing Order to pay it off would be easier to manage (for him), and you'd have traceability by the amounts arriving in your account each month.. But if Paypal works for you both then OK.0
