Advice on new washing machine

My 2yr old Hotpoint washer dryer (spit, grr - why the hell did I buy it?) has decided to randomly smell of smoke and flash error codes at me (awaiting a response on the wonderful UKWhiteGoods forums on that).
In the meantime, I'm trying to work out how to replace it at the lowest cost possible.
I need a washing machine (no need for the dryer now) and my only specification is that it must be silver (not stainless steel) to fit with the remainder of my appliances.
There's only 2 of us in our house, washing on average 3-4 times a week.
I can't afford a Miele, so I looked at Bosch as the next-best-thing (unless someone can suggest otherwise). My choices are:
Bosch WAE2416SG
Bosch WAE2846SG
Can anyone suggest any others that I should consider/look at? How much should I expect to pay for a genuine German-built one (more than £300, I'm sure!). At most I could stretch to £400...

Hi,
Like you I will never touch another Hotpoint. My sister has an LG which she is really pleased with, it cost just over £400 but has a standard 5 year guarantee.
