Haggling for used car

I am about to buy my first car Vauxhall Astra 1.6 2010 the price tag is around £4 000. How much realistically I can get price dropped?
Based on the recent posts on this forum it looks like not much if anything at all as apparently car dealers price cars to sell. Having said that I put couple reg numbers on We Buy Any Car and they are valued at about 2 600, which makes me think there should be some room for negotiation.
I have to buy from a car dealer for various reasons and will be buying in Greater London/outskirts.

So you want them to sell you the car with no profit margin yet store it advertise it and then offer you a comprehensive warranty?0 -
£2600 will be trade price, what are they going for on autotrader? £4000 seems expensive.0

Have a look at Parkers used car valuations site , you will see that there's usually at least £1200 between the dealer price and the part-ex price....as they are usually giving some sort of guarantee they have to price as such and make some money.0

£4000 is Autotrader price. I am just wondering if there is any wiggle room in that £1200 and if so how much. Obviously I want to pay as little as possible but dont want to be making silly offers.0

Worst thing they can say is no thank you, you want a car more than they need to sell you a car, hold on.....they may offer you finance0 -

The price is very dependant on the condition of the car, you will probably pay more in London.
I paid £2,500 for a high milage 1.7 Zafira(2013) on ebay from the Newcastle area.0 -
If you are looking to spend around the 3 to 4k mark I would be looking at buying privately.
You will get a lot more car for your money.
There is of course a slightly increased element of risk but use some of the money you save to buy a friendly mechanic a couple of crates of beer for giving the car a check over and also make sure you get a proper HPI check (& follow the T&C with regard to checking all VIN / chassis numbers). Was it really "everybody" that was Kung Fu fighting ???0 -

If you go to a dealer basing your offer price purely on a website where their business model is to buy cars for under trade value off the public then you won't get very far.
Just look at what other Astras of the similar spec and mileage and base your offer on the market. You may get a couple of hundred knocked off or they will say no.0 -
You can always ask, but few places have much room on the price (because if it's not priced well it'll be ignored on autotrader). You can always negotiate for things like added services, accessories and such since they'll cost the dealer a fraction of what they'd cost you.
But realistically, is it a good car at a good price?0
