Has anyone switched to HSBC?

I am looking at switching from Tesco to HSBC to take advantage of the £175 bonus. My only problem is that I am on holiday, abroad, until September and I cant see any information that this switch can be done entirely online, or if details for online banking, etc actually come through the post, which obviously i cant access. I wonder if anyone who has switched recently can enlighten me. Thanks, John.

The switch has to be completed online within 30 days of opening the account I believe.
Online banking details etc will come through the post0 -
In addition to !!!'s post: HSBC may or may not require you to appear in Branch as part of their ID checks. The only way to find out is to apply.0

I've switched but cannot log onto on-line banking. Have been informed that the switch has completed and my old bank has said my account is closed.
HSBC were supposed to send a Telephone security number so I could register for on-line banking, still not received it after 10 days of sending them a specimen signature.
As far as I'm concerned they are an absolute shambles, I just cannot access my account.
Thankfully I only did the switch for the bribe so I'm not in any dire straits, but I shudder to think what it would be like if someone had to rely on their account working.0 -

One thing I noticed hidden away in the welcome pack/documentation is that you can actually just give them a call to setup the telephone security number, no need to return the letter:

HSBC seem to take great delight in overcomplicating banking.0 -

She said: “you have to pay in a minimum of £1,000 per month or we will close your account”. (I was looking to open an ISA which had a £200/month limit). She went on to say: “You might be better off going to Barclays, because they are known for taking people who don’t want to work or are on benefits...” (which I am not). I found this really quite offensive and left immediately. But, that’s just my personal experience.0

I was refused an account recently as on paper I do not appear to meet the ability to pay in required monthly amount. It’s their prerogative of course. I found more amenable banks to switch to within minutes. I would complain about her communication with you as it was rude and discriminatory.0
