British gas charging me twice!
Options
Just realised after checking my Bill's that british gas has been charging me for
Two electricity meter accounts for over a year. I want to complain but what can I expect? They have frozen my account but are not getting g back to me for another three weeks. I get really confused with all the jargon they use on the Bill's online which aren't clear to me. Been with them for over ten years.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I suppose the first question has to be why has it taken a year for you to notice?
Are these charges for two different meters on your property? Why have they frozen your account?0 -
My question is the same as Neil's, why has it taken you over a year to discover that there's a problem. I'd guess that most people would check their bank accounts a bit more often and notice two bills or two direct debits are coming out for the same company. Likewise don't you read your meters more than once a year or so.
It's difficult to give you any advice as you've got to sort it out yourself by checking your bills against meter readings, meter ID numbers and working out why you've go two accounts - have they got different account numbers, do they both apply to the same meter or premises, are they all in your name, are all the readings Estimated.
Personally I'd try tracking back to when you had a bill that was based on an actual reading and then hope that there's enough info on line to help you work forwards to when it all went wrong otherwise you'll have to hope that BG know what happened and can help you sort it out.
The advice is to read you meters once a month, send the reading into the supplier and check your bills. It saves no end of aggro if something goes wrong because you've only got one or two months worth of anomalies to sort out rather than a year or more. It's a good idea to check your bank account a bit more frequently as well, just so you know where all the money is goingNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
The OP refers to account in the singular so I suspect the two meters are appearing on the one bill, associated with a single payment?
I don't have any more helpful advice to give than that already given other than to download bills when available in pdf format, just so they're available for future reference.
(I was going to have a whinge about "Bill's" but my Android tablet keeps "correcting" bills to Bill's and I have to go back and reselect the word I typed!)0
