MSE energy club confusion- earliest date to switch

In the past I remember getting timely emails telling me the date had arrived that I could switch penalty free.

So my end of fixed deal is 20th July. Energy club sent me an email 7th May saying 'you're now paying too much'. Not a mention of the date I could switch without penalty. Logged into Energy Club. It displays my existing contract and my end of current fix date, but says nothing about when I should switch. Scoured the Energy Club's site, FAQs etc. Couldn't find mention of the rule.

Finally in the Daily Telegraph online I find the rule, can switch up to 49 days before end of previous fix.

So I make that 1st June so should get my skates on. What's up with the MSE Energy Club's usual clarity?
