Vista and freeware for creative photo/image editing

I have installed Picture It! 2002 only to find it is not compatible with Vista.

I have read several treads recommending freeware for image editing but am unclear whether these will work with Vista or not.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated - thanks.

How about Gimpshop? An opensource equivalent of Photoshop?

I know it works on Vista as I was using it today.

I am in the same position
Now trying Paint.NET and it seems to be quite advanced enough for my needs
You can download several plug ins filters to further enhance it

    thanks

gimp came up a lot in the threads I have read as did one or two others ... if you have been using it with Vista will try it first
  • Paint.NET works with Vista
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

    2 mentions for paint.NET

is this more like MS paint ?

... looking for something more like picture it - something slightly more creative for images other than photos

It's much better. Why don't you download it & have a play. I have Paint Shop Pro 9, but use Paint.NET 80-90% of the time.

Also try the free Serif PhotoPlus 8. Instead of calling for a serial code as it says, you can obtain one through email by registering online at Serif. G

I have tried d/loading gimpshop but it keeps giving error messages so uninstalled

I have d/loaded paint.net but it does not contain so many of the features of picture it that proved useful - templates, effects, colour changes, cutter etc

will keep it as better than paint but am still looking for something like Picture It! 2002

despite reading help threads in many forums I can't get Picture it to work in vista - my copy is from works suite 2002

    any help / advice please?

Google do a nice photo organiser /retoucher called picassa. It's free and seems to be pretty useful.
Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though

I agree Picasa is a good program for organising & some basic retouching, but isn't much of an 'image editor' as such.

Paint.NET is much better in this regard, but the OP is looking for something with templates...& a 'cutter' (wondering what this is?). It does have effects, colour changes, etc.

Perhaps, the OP can enquire about templates a la Picture It at the Paint.NET forum. G
