Return or not?
Hey guys,
I need to post this here just to see if I am being unreasonable in what I want to take as a course of action.
I bought a car 2 weeks ago today. Within seconds of owning it the idrive broke (it is a BMW) and is now intermittent (more off than on). This is a common issue and is the CCC unit, up to a £1000 fix but the dealer said they will get that fixed so I was not too bothered at that point. That day I am out so don't get chance to drive the car. The next day I notice a very loud whirring / chirping noise, likely a not fit for purpose serpentine belt. Also I notice that the air con randomly turns itself on at full blast without being touched. There is also a dynamic drive warning that pops up that day. Quite a bad day.
On monday I go to work and on the way home notice there is a coolant liquid low fault. I get this topped up as it may have just been low and drive it on Tuesday. Again it comes back though so I keep the car on the drive and contact the dealer to get it fixed. On the saturday it goes into a "BMW Specialist" to get the main 3 issues fixed (idrive, serpentine and coolant leak). I know these are the issues and how to fix them as I got some local independent advice from funnily enough a BMW specialist.
It had to be picked up by the garage on the saturday because it was not safe to drive a car with a major coolant leak as it can cause more engine damage. However, we clearly saw him drive the BMW away which was a worrying sign.
Anyway that week I had no car so had to loan my fathers car for which I paid him £50 and of course petrol as it was a minor inconvenience to him. Fast forward to today and the car is back with me. The coolant is not leaking (for now) but the idrive and the noise which is now even louder and more worrying are still there. My issue here is I cannot afford the time it is going to take to be back and forth complaining of this or that until they properly fix it and I need a car for work so losing weeks of being able to drive is not really an option.
So my thoughts right now are to reject the car, however, I do not like the idea of this. But, there isn't a lot of choice.I wouldn't mind, I expect a dealer to just be honest you know, I traded them a clean 350z with less miles and was honest about the one issue it had which was a large paint chip. This dealer said the car was mint and I test drove it etc but we all know you can patch up issues long enough for a test drive...
It is 85k miles so you expect some issues and I would be okay with issues but like, not a day or 2 into ownership.
What is everyone's thoughts? Am I being unreasonable or are they trying to palm me off with a lemon here.
Cheers :money:

Reject it. The dealer has had his single attempt at repair, so get rid now while you can still get a full refund.0
-
Yeah get it returned chop chop....bad luck that none of these faults showed up on the test drive though.0

Little update I sent my letter of rejection but the dealer is refusing to refund even though it is a clearly faulty and mis sold car. What is my next port of call? Bear in mind I am only really 8 days into ownership as I bought it on 1st June and it was in garage over a week.0

I'm sure they gave a reason why , so that you can take up the case with an independent adjudicator. (gosh some people love a fight).0 -
Because I picked it up after being told it was fixed only to find all probs still there. Kind of a funny reason.0

Then go with your fight then.....'he said she said , I was told blah blah'
If the fault s are still there the return it back to the dealer, very few of you buy outright from a dealer, so perhaps try asking the finance company their thoughts.0 -
I did buy it outright. I am guessing next step is dispute resolution? Or do I report to trading standards?0

Worth mentioning I did some research. They have changed their trading name and their previous name had a history of scamming with terrible cars that were sold with certain things extended warranties, FSH etc but came with none of these things.0

It's a shame you didn't do that before buying.0
