It couldn't have any connection with the Royal Mail Monitoring and Posting Panel could it? I've had a quick look at a thread on this and it seems participants get incentives for doing something or other (no idea what). Could this be a cash incentive following a market research survey or whatever it is you do with the Royal Mail thing?

Possibly, I am on the Royal Mail posting panel but I do not remember giving them the bank details and they do not normally pay cash.

Can I ask where you seen this?

    You can indeed.

I just looked at some of your old posts to see if there could have been anything where you might have been enrolled in something that paid incentives. I came across the Royal Mail thing in which some posters referred to TNS. TNS seemed to do market research and so I wondered if there was a tie up anywhere. Pure speculation.

Whatever the case, this organisation has got your bank details (and 'seemingly' those of woosie-uk) and paid money to you.

Ben8282 has alluded to this as possibly being a ruse to get publicity. I have come across organisations that do do some odd things to gain publicity and paying cash out could easily be one of those because they suspect you will try to trace them or post on a forum such as this. They can then suck you in and apologise for their error and either ask you to pay it back or suggest you keep it for the inconvenience and, by the way, would you like to blah, blah, blah....

Obviously that doesn't explain how they got your bank details (unless they made them up and hit on you by chance) and it does sound like an expensive way to attract attention.

I think you have misunderstood. I wasn't; implying that this company were paying out money in order to gain publicity. I said the existence of the post about the company was giving them publicity.

No, I got you, I was just expanding on the theme of seeking publicity.
  • Not that I'm in collusion with CAMBRIDGE GLOBAL (bold capitals so no one misses it) or wanting to boost their public profile by bumping this thread to the top of the list again but, did you get any joy by contacting them now that they are open, Jo4?

I telephoned and spoke to a female who they took my full name, the amount received and the date which the amount was credited to my bank account. She said they had not paid anyone on Friday with my surname that amount. She also said there was another company trading under the same name who also made payments.

I am no further forward regretfully.
  • So I am on that TNS panel as well.. I will ask them if they have done any transfers.. Never get given that much normally and it's always vouchers though I did read they were changing their methods..

The TNS speculation was just that, speculation. Based on Terry T making a link that isn't really a link (merely that the OP is also a TNS panellist - which doesn't make it a link).

TNS postal surveys never pay anything. They use stamps and vouchers. The changes they're making are new range of vouchers.

So I'd suggest we ignore the TNS suggestion and get on with working out a more likely scenario!!

PS On a more definitive note, TNS don't have panellists bank info so they can't possibly pay us, so forget TNS!!!

One year on and the money was not debited from the account again so I am nothing the wiser.
  • We've recently been sent three anonymous payments by Cambridge Global and our bank is unable to offer any visibility to the source.  They don't tally with any revenue statements which could mean they are foreign currency exchanges but it all smells a bit suspicious.  Would love to hear from other people on the web if they have been in a similar situation or lateral thoughts on how to derive the sender's information. Thank you
