Amending car insurance mid-policy

I am currently studying at university and on an industrial placement year. This means that I have been living away from home for the past year. The problem I have is that I finish the placement and move home on the 7th July however my insurance needs renewing on the 19th June.
I was wondering what would be the best way to get insurance in my case because I know my details will be changing in advance. I feel that if I take out insurance with one provider registered at my rental address then when it comes to changing my details they may hit me with a large premium increase.
One solution I was thinking about was to not renew my current policy, be without insurance for a week (not driving of course), and then get insurance with a company who won't charge a lot to cancel within the 14-day cooling off period (I think hasting essential don't charge for cancelling within this period). Cancel that policy then take out new insurance when I'm home. What do you think? Is there an easier way, would an insurance company allow me to change my policy mid-contract without any extortianate fees?

"A large premium increase" depends on the different risks of the properties. It may well be that there's a premium refund if you move from a high-risk area to a low-risk one. Obviously, there are going to be policy amendment fees, but they'll vary depending on the insurer - look at them at the time you take the quote out.
It's also worth actually speaking to insurers and describing the situation, rather than relying on online quotes.0 -

When you put your occupation as student, and speak to them about it, you shouldn't incur too big a cost.
You could just get insured on the days that you use your car, if its off road at other times.0 -

And that's before we consider whether the OP has off-road parking or not.0 -
When I was planning to move, I got insurance quotes based on the address I was going to move to, picked an insurer that was reasonable, requoted for my current address, checked they were still reasonable and used them.
This doesn't absolutely guarantee that they won't shaft you when you move, but you should be OK.0 -
Might Sir have forgotten about the Continuous Insurance regs, and how they might affect taxing?

If you're suspected of being the registered keeper of a vehicle without insurance or SORN you'll first get an official reminder – an 'Insurance Advisory Letter'.
So for the short term, there is no penalty.0
