Missold holiday

Options
Hi there

I recently returned from a holiday abroad which I was SO excited to travel to. Cancun in Mexico. The pictures on TUI's website looked stunning, turqouise waters, white beaches, beautiful resort, what more could I want?

The reality was far from true, the hotel's beach is suffering from MAJOR issues regarding seaweed, emitting a vulgar eggy/sulfur smell throughout the resort. The beach is unusable, tractors parade the beach in attempts to clear it alongside workmen with pitchforks and wheelbarrows, all in vain.

I have complained to my rep who argued that they can't send a photographer every month to update TUIs website photos, which isn't what I asked, but at least a disclaimer should be present to warn travellers of what the reality actually is.

I have found TUI not to take my complaint seriously. Can I claim on my credit card under missold services for a portion of my monies back?

I wouldn't have thought so. Seaweed is a natural occurrence. You may as well complain the sand was too gritty or the water the wrong shade of blue or something. No travel company is going to be able to guarantee a seaweed-free beach. I've holidayed a lot in a place that rarely sees seaweed on the beach but after particular freak weather conditions one spring the beach was absolutely covered that summer.

Nature very rarely matches a travel agents pictures. If there'd been no tractors and workmen clearing the beach maybe you would have had reason to complain.

You could go back to Cancun next week and there'll be no seaweed.

What do you really think TUI are going to do? Email all the customers the day before they go with a seaweed alert?

    "Missold"? Sorry, it's ridiculous.

Seaweed and beaches can go hand-in-hand, Mexico is a destination that does have seaweed issues.

Google and read any number of pages, https://www.mexicanist.com/l/cancun-seaweed-sargassum/

Research aside of the brochure/website is something we all need to do a bit more thoroughly.

What you experienced was the effects of toxic algae blooms that have been effecting parts of Mexico and Florida. The holiday company have as much control over something like this as they do like bad weather, and you would not be complaining if the brochure showed blue skies and it rained every day.

You were not missold you were just unlucky.

Yet another over the top and incorrect use of "missold" (although I'll give the OP a point for spelling it right).

I very much doubt TUI would do anything regarding this. In this day and age most people don’t just go by the pictures on the travel agents website. Most people I would assume will look at reviews from othe
