Is there an online file storage option that behaves just like another drive as opposed to an automatic back-up or mirroring service?
I.e. one where you choose to save files to it, and they stay there until you choose to delete them again. The automated services sound too clever for their own good and will be hogging the internet at times when you want to use it. Thanks

not sure what you mean but google drive, onedrive, dropbox etc. you can upload files to any of those services and they will stay there until you delete them"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

^ no, just one that doesn't use it at times I'm using it

Thanks for the replies, that's good news.0 -
After looking at virtually every cloud offering I chose pCloud.
I have been using it for about 3 years now and it has worked flawlessly for me. When you install the desktop client it creates a virtual 'P:' drive on your system that works just like any other drive. The other advantage is that you can select any existing directory for synchronisation.
You get 10Gb free and can easily get this up to 20Gb with some simple tasksI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
I keep my stuff in https://www.mega.nz Its free, user friendly and gives 50gb of storage.
I keep my pictures in it and only transfer when there is a special occasion or I go on holiday.
I can also send a link so that others can view themI'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0 -

What is meant does this look like a network drive with a letter you can access via file explorer rather than a web page. I think Dropbox has this option to download an app to your machine so you can access cloud based storage without opening a web browsercoffeehound wrote: »Is there an online file storage option that behaves just like another drive as opposed to an automatic back-up or mirroring service?0 -

Pretty much all of the major ones do this.capital0ne wrote: »What is meant does this look like a network drive with a letter you can access via file explorer rather than a web page. The cloud - AKA someone else's computer.
The problem with the cloud, if the company shuts down, goes broke, or gets it servers seized?
Like https://torrentfreak.com/namecheap-suspends-domain-of-file-hosting-service-nofile-io-190616/ or megauploads, Rapidshare etc.

OK, I am in no doubt Amazon and microsoft are big, and doubt they will go broke, however they also may use other peoples storage and rebrand it as their own?
Then there are those that give you storage for free and cheap, and after a year or two decide to make you pay. How do you get the information off asap?

No, I am not saying do not use it, but you should always have multiple backups.
With that in mind, the org I am working for has a new(-ish) app, and it is cloud based. It is going to take close to a year to transfer the existing data up to the new company (think over 500TB). How will the org in the future change suppliers, an increase or lack of service, or go broke???....0
