So give every UK child £20k or keep giving to foreign aid at a rate twice what the french give?

Foreign aid please (what do the french have to do with anything).
I’m one of those crazy “lefties” who doesn’t think our aid should just stop at the borders (although we can’t welfare state the entire world).

    Well this is MSE

What would the MSE advise be for someone who is borrowing money on their credit card to give it to charity?

You're right. I've just run the figures from the last "How your tax was spent" letter. It was actually just over 1% I'm still not going to complain.

And on the second bit, would I rather give £20k to every UK child or have the money spent on helping what are literally the poorest people on the planet and in some cases making the difference between then living or dying? Do I really have to tell you?

5 times as much of my tax money went in paying interest on the National Debt as went towards foreign aid. 10 times as much went on education & 20 times as much on Welfare (which did not include pensions, that's a separate item).

Sorry, but I don't give a flying f#*@ what the French give.

Well if you were not borrowing £15 billion a year to give it to the poor over the last 20 years then your national debt would have been about £300 billion less and your national debt interest payments would be significantly less

    Your argument is too simplistic
At any rate you'd say the same
You offer nothing to the debate

Foreign aid is either too high or too low
Its unlikely to be exactly the correct amount which is more or less your position

Some things can not be fixed so easily. IQ which contributes heavily to the productivity of a country (and therefore the living standards of its people) is mostly genetic and its going to be very difficult to raise this in one generation. Any funding needs to aim at raising IQ levels as without a high enough IQ, everything else is pointless.

    MSE advice would be to

    1) increase income
    2) do an SOA with a view to living within your means
    3) look to get better value
    4) look for a ways to economise

Someone who’s rich does not need to cut out tiny amounts to charity they need to cut out the avocado toast and fancy iPhone.
