Expanding a text box

I am trying to complete an application form, and need to put 2500 words of free text. The dialogue box only lets me see about 10 words at a time then continues to scroll.

How do I expand the box to see what I am typing, and be able to bullet point and paragraph?

Do it in a word document then copy and last across?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

But don't let your spill chucker loose on it. ;)

Is this an online form? An interactive pdf? A Word document?

The answer will depend on what it is you're using.

If it's in a browser, is there a little triangle or similar in the bottom right corner? Click that and drag out to resize the box.

Are you using Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 by any chance?

The resize handle bottom right of text boxes is not supported by Edge (or Internet Explorer come to that), but is by pretty much any other browser.

As to bullet points, that may not even be an option, a lot depends on how the form is set up.
  • Use Notepad or pure text editor to compose your message. If you cut and paste from a Word document it can add all sorts of strange characters in my experience.

Many online forms (should) strip out a lot of formatting codes, as they can lead to code injection attacks. So there will be little beyond plain text that you should attempt, even using tabs will not guarantee to keep the positioning you see when typing it up. Why are you trying to put so much information into a small text box anyway? Isn't that way more than is expected? Can't you attach or email a seperate document to the application?

    Apparently not.

Although I have to say 2,500 words is a hell of a lot of text, I wonder if the limit is actually 2,500 characters.

Don't use word, use Notepad - Word will fill your text with hidden formatting that may not paste properly into a web text entry box
